Bay Area Music Project
Bay Area Music Project (BAMP), was founded in 2014, responding to a call from a Title 1 school community to design and operate a high-quality after-school program that uses music education and social-emotional learning to uplift and unify their underresourced community. Since then, BAMP has continued to adapt and respond to its communitys needs while demonstrating how our work reaches far beyond the walls of the music classroom. BAMP has served the creative, emotional and academic needs of over 150 students in grades K-5 annually. Throughout their 16+ out-of-school hours in AMP each week, students receive culturally responsive, engaging music instruction with supplied instruments, academic support, mindfulness and movement activities, and nutritious snacks. In 2020, BAMP fulfilled its planned expansion vision by successfully launching a multi-instrumental instruction program for middle and high school students and a summer music program for incoming 6th graders in East Oakland, CA.Additionally, BAMP provides multiple opportunities throughout the year for students to showcase their musical skills and connect with the larger Bay Area community, including performances at the Salesforce Dreamforce Technology conference with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, EdSurge/ITSE (International Society for Technology in Education) Fusion Conference, San Francisco, CA education conferences and XQ Institute Oakland Block Party to name a few. Throughout their time in BAMP, as our students become citizens of the orchestra, they transform into active citizens of our community. Local educators, policymakers, community members, and the music community have recognized this impact: In 2017, AMP was named Outstanding Organization by former California District 18 Assemblyman Rob Bonta In 2021, AMP received the Spotlight on Quality Award from the CDEs Region 4 System of Support for Expanded Learning (SSEL) programs office and Alameda County Office of Education.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2021 – Jun 30, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$357.1K
