The Heartland Center for Jobs and Freedom handles employment and consumer cases on the behalf of low-wage workers. By providing legal services to low-wage workers, the Heartland Center assists workers who would otherwise go without representation. These cases also hold abusive companies accountable for gross misconduct, and help deter abuse. The Heartland Center provides no-cost legal advice to tenants on housing issues, and represents tenants who have been sued for eviction in Jackson County. In 2022 the organization represented over 150 tenants facing eviction, with a 99% success rate of keeping tenants housed with no eviction on their record. A Tenant Defense Alliance - Kansas City was established and trained Right to Counsel attorneys citywide. The Tenant Problem Solver debuted which provides free legal rights information to tenants along with our legal help hotline. Between these tools, thousands of tenants received free legal information to address their issues with their landlords. The Safe Homes for All program was established to address poor housing conditions and management neglect endemic to low-income housing.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$386.5K
