Covid-19 Support for Refugees and Immigrants
NEAAO has worked very closely with DHHS and other organizations on Covid-19 support at home and quarantine shelters, sharing education and information, distribution of PPE and vaccinations. These services were delivered in a culturally sensitive way in Arabic to support all refugees and immigrants. In May, NEAAO hosted a Eid Al-Fitr celebration which for over 200 families. NEAAO has been helping neighbors get the resources they need to stay healthy and safe. We distributed aid to over 500 families, provided meals to over 50 families in quarantine, and continue to support families. We produced posters and brochures in Arabic to ensure information is accessible NEAAO created support avenues for new Mainers to thrive in the Lakes Region of Maine. Working with Through These Doors we established a strong safety net and community. NEAAO works hard to empower women, children, and teens through aspirational programs, health and wellness, domestic abuse prevention, education, and career opportunities. NEAAO welcomes new refugees and immigrants coming into Maine and supports their needs with resource opportunities and education. Resources support community members in transition into Maine communities, and is based on expressed needs of new Maine families and youth.NEAAO is also engaging teens in leadership and mentoring roles for younger community members. NEAAO WORKS CLOSELY WITH A NUMBER OF COLLABORATING PARTNERS. THESE INCLUDE DOJ, MAINE LAW ENFORCEMENT, STATE AND LOCAL NON-PROFITS ON EDUCATION INCLUDING HATE CRIME PREVENTION. THE WORK OF NEAAO IS ON EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT ALL NEW MAINE FAMILIES AND THOSE ALREADY CURRENTLY LIVING IN MAINE. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON EMPOWERING AND EDUCATING WOMEN AND CHILDREN. NEAAO VALUES THE ASPIRATION OF YOUTH AND WOMEN IN PARTICULAR TO ENSURE POSITIVE FUTURES.
