Scholarships for Rural Students
Scholarships to graduating seniors in three different ISDs in Wood County. Awards were made to 12 student applications based on defined, scored and non discriminatory criteria. This accomplishes promoting higher education among rural students. Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program sponsorship for three different zip codes in the Wood County area. We register children under 5 years old to receive age appropriate free books through the DPIL and pay a partial fee per book and the complete shipping cost to the Dollywood foundation for all our registered Children. The Dollywood Foundation supplies the books and takes care of the distribution. Reading supports early brain development and encourages school readiness. State certified Special Olympics Meet The Pilot Club hosts the surrounding special education department schools to a certified meet in the spring of each year. The meet is participated by approximately 12 different school systems with up to 200 special athletes. It takes at least 100 volunteers to run the meet and make all the preparations beforehand. It involves not only all Pilot members but many community volunteers to be able to put on the meet. The special athletes are able to earn points at this meet to go on to area, state and national Special Olympic meets.
