Programs
Program 1 [2020]
Science and Research: Monitored and maintained 11 living shoreline installations in NJ and DE, including sites at Money Island, NJ and Misipillion Harbor, DE. A new living shoreline was installed at Bartram's Garden on the Schuylkill River in PA. Freshwater mussel research continued in 2020, including exploring the use of these animals to improve water quality in stormwater ponds and lakes. Planning continued for the new freshwater mussel hatchery, which will be constructed on the grounds of Bartram's' Garden in Philadelphia, PA. An architectural design firm was hired, and it's anticipated that construction will begin in fall 2022.Education and Outreach: PDE had to rethink the way that we offer these programs as a result on the Covid pandemic. PDE continued to conduct school and community outreach, with most of this work taking place virtually. PDE led and participated in numerous outreach events in 2020 including Wilmington Delaware's Earth and Arbor Day Celebration and the Delaware River Festival. Through these and other programs, PDE reached thousands of people with information about PDE's work and the importance of protecting the Delaware River Bay and their tributaries.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.9MLiving Shoreline and Freshwater Mussel Initiatives
