The Fishing Schools Afterschool Program
The Fishing Schools (TFS) afterschool program improves students academic performance and life skills, and develops their ability to attain personal goals. TFS serves about 425 students across the District of Columbia with continuous, long-term programming that consists of several unique features. Common Core-aligned STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities help participants apply math and reading concepts, increase exposure to science, and develop critical thinking skills. Technology infusion and the use of blended learning tools such as Intelliseeds, bridge the digital divide and strengthen our students math and reading skills. Students also participate in life skills activities, college and career explorations, and enrichment clubs. TFS parent engagement program supports parents and guardians actively engaging in their students academic development. The Fishing Schools (TFS) summer camp is a high quality, intensive program, offered at no cost to our students and families, in which participants receive over 200 hours of support to build and maintain academic and social skills in an effort to prevent summer learning loss. Students participate in interactive, engaging programming focusing on global cultures and communities, educating students about the world around them and their roles in it. Students are also engaged in college and career-based programming, co-curricular experiences, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities, and reading and math support.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesOct 1, 2021 – Sep 30, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$888.5K
