Crisis Intervention Services
Crisis intervention services involves all services that strive to address the critical time in the aftermath of victimization or the reporting of the crime. The 24-hr crisis lines (English & Spanish) serve as the gateway to all of DCRCs services. Callers can receive emotional support, information, safety planning and referrals. Additionally, they are often connected with other services such as counseling and assessed for emergency Victims of sexual assault or domestic violence were met at area hospitals for support during forensic examinations and medical services. The agency assisted many people for sexual assault related crimes, domestic violence and human trafficking. Legal advocacy is an integral part of DCRCs programming. At our Family Justice Center, located in the Durham County Courthouse, victims receive support as they work through the criminal and civil justice systems. Advocates and volunteers assist them with reporting to law enforcement, offer court accompaniment, case management, filing protective orders, filing for victim compensation, and other services. Bilingual services are also a part of this component. DCRC assisted in 1,000+ cases and provided walk-ins with legal or advocacy help. DCRC operates a temporary emergency shelter offering adults and children who are fleeing violent homes a safe and supportive environment. Many adults and children were provided shelter. DCRC offers a transitional housing program designed to help families safely and effectively move into violence-free living. Through the program, they can receive counseling, financial literacy education, employability skills training and other educational programming.
