See Sch OThe business council works to implement clear, predictable laws that foster honest, efficient, transparent and accountable government. The business council strives to ensure a highly competitive business environment that attracts productive companies, individuals, and families to the greater New Orleans region and State of Louisiana. Presently, the business council collaborates extensively with government, civic and other business organizations to tackle issues vital to the region. Organized in task forces, the business council leverages these small member-led and staff supported groups to research and address issues identified as impacting the greater New Orleans region and the State of Louisiana. In recent years, the organization has been especially focused on initiatives designed to make city government more efficient and effective including improving the criminal justice system, monitoring the work of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, and developing and advocating for policies that increase the likelihood of success for all Orleans Parish public school students.(1)Oversaw and managed the release of the 2020 Forward New Orleans for Public Schools Platform. (2) Supporting state, regional, and local elected officials and community leaders in developing and implementing policies to the COVID-19 pandemic. THE BUSINESS COUNCIL COLLECTIVELY ACCOUNTS FOR APPROXIMATELY $118 BILLION IN ANNUAL GROSS REVENUE AND 90,000 LOUISIANA JOBS THROUGH THE ENTERPRISES IT REPRESENTS. IT DEPLOYS THIS ECONOMIC STANDING - AND ITS ORGANIZATIONAL RESOURCES -TO CAUSE PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO IMPLEMENT CLEAR, PREDICTABLE LAWS THAT FOSTER EFFICIENT, EFFECTIVE TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNMENT. MEMBER-DRIVEN ISSUES-BASED TASK FORCES TARGET CRITICAL AREAS OF PUBLIC POLICY CONCERN, INCLUDING CRIMINAL JUSTICE, WATER MANAGEMENT, STREETS, PUBLIC EDUCATION, COASTAL RESTORATION AND CITY FINANCE. FOR EACH ISSUE, TASK FORCE MEMBERS IDENTIFY BEST PRACTICES AND OPTIMAL OUTCOMES; COMPARE THEM TO THE STATUS QUO; DEVELOP EXPERTISE BASED ON RESEARCH, DATA AND COLLABORATIVE ENGAGEMENT WITH PUBLIC OFFICIALS; CREATE ANNUAL POLICY (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) OBJECTIVES AND PROVIDE SUPPORT AND OVERSIGHT FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT'S ACHIEVEMENT OF THEM. THE IMMEDIATE GOAL IS IMPROVEMENT IN GOVERNMENT'S ABILITY TO DELIVER ON ITS CHARTER MANDATE OF RESPONSIVELY PROVIDING BASIC MUNICIPAL SERVICES. THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO ELEVATE GOVERNMENT'S PERFORMANCE TO DEMONSTRABLE EXCELLENCE. KEY ACTIVITY FOR 2023 INCLUDED ADVOCATING FOR AND PARTICIPATING IN THE NATIONAL SEARCH FOR A NEW POLICE CHIEF, OVERSIGHT ON A $30 MILLION INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM FOR THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, LEADING THE DIALOGUE AND ADVOCACY FOR CRITICAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM FUNDING, CREATING A SWBNO REFORM AGENDA, SUPPORTING THE WORK OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE ADVISORY BOARD, PROVIDING A COMPREHENSIVE CITY BUDGET ANALYSIS AND A FISCAL DASHBOARD TO TRACK REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES, FUNDRAISING FOR THE HOMELESSNESS FLEX FUND AND PROVIDING LEADERSHIP ON POLICY OBJECTIVES AND ADVOCACY FOR THE COASTAL MASTER PLAN TO ENSURE IT REMAINS A STATE-OF-THE-ART AND SCIENCE-BASED POLICY AND INVESTMENT GUIDE FOR COASTAL RESTORATION.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––
