Virtual Concert Series during COVID-19
For the 2020/2021 season, Key Chorale was unable to perform any concerts for live audiences due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and so our season was reinvented as a series of online streaming events. The season began in October with Together We Rise followed by A Come Together Holiday in December, Bach Together Again in January, Coronation: Mozart and Haydn in February, Tomorrows Voices Tonight in March and Everything That Has Breath in April. We also presented a special Virtual Choir event called Masked in Troubled Times in June. Sheer Grace, a collaboration with the Sarasota Ballet originally scheduled for November 2020, was postponed until November 2021. All three of our April & May performances of Cirque des Voix, our collaboration with the Circus Arts Conservatory, along with Mays Tomorrows Voices Today concert were cancelled due to the pandemic.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$243KCommunity Outreach Programs
Community Outreach The Off-Key Chorale, in partnership with the Neuro Challenge Foundation, is a choral group composed of people living with Parkinsons disease. The Where Are My Keys? Chorale is a similar program for those suffering from Alzheimers. No in-person rehearsals were held due to the pandemic, so the Come Together Choir was launched as an online version of these programs, open to anyone, free of charge. Over 600 participants from around the globe enjoyed this offering. Visible Men Academy (VMA) is a tuition free charter school for at-risk boys in grades K through 5 in Bradenton, Florida. Through Key Chorales partnership with VMA, Key Chorale singers and educators conduct hands-on music activities with students, culminating in a final performance for family and friends. This season all activities were conducted in an outdoor, socially distanced setting.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$10.9KStudent Scholars Program
Student Scholars As an outgrowth of the Tomorrows Voices Today collaboration with Sarasota County Public Schools, Key Chorale continued this program for exceptionally gifted juniors and seniors pursuing music after high school. Students must apply, audition and then be accepted to sing a full performance season with Key Chorale. The Student Scholars receive private voice lessons and mentoring on every aspect of professional musicianship, from auditions to resume-building. The Scholars also prepare solos and perform in a separate recital attended by Key Chorale patrons. The pandemic presented some challenges to our program this season, but activities were accomplished virtually, including voice lessons, rehearsals and our end of season Student Scholar recital and fundraiser, Tomorrows Voices Tonight. Eight Student Scholars completed the program in 2020/2021.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$9.1K
