BEAR LAKE PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION INC
Programs
Program 1 [2021]
Bear Lake Preservation Association represents all the lake residents in the four lakes area. These include Lake Asher, Bear Lake, Little Bear Lake and Cub Lake. We maintain and update the BLPA website periodically. A newsletter is written and produced by BLPA and then mailed to all the lake residents. These forms of communication keep the lake residents current on the health and quality of the lake waters. Bear Lake Preservation Association continues to submit monthly lake water samples to University of Florida IFAS Lake Watch for analysis and reports of lake water health for all four lakes. In addition, BLPA continues to maintain a healthy relationship with the Seminole County commissioner for the four lakes area. BLPA works closely with Seminole County and SJRWMD engineers and staff to insure the lake residents' concerns are conveyed to each governing body. In 2020 the Alton Drive Storm Water Pond retrofit project was completed by Seminole County. BLPA worked closely with Seminole County storm water engineers on the design and function of the pond. Heavy rains in late 2020 brought a flood of muddy water from a large construction project in Orange County into the streets and homes on Bear Lake and the lake itself. BLPA was instrumental in organizing the engineers in Seminole County, Orange County, SJRWMD and the contractor for the construction project. Together best management practices were implemented to control and stop further flooding. BLPA continues to monitor the project for further issues.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.9KBear Lake Preservation Initiative
Bear Lake Preservation Association (BLPA) represents the residents of Lake Asher, Bear Lake, Little Bear Lake and Cub Lake. Every year a newsletter is written and produced by BLPA and mailed to all of the lake residents in the four lakes area. We maintain and update the BLPA website periodically. This communication keeps the lake residents current on the health and quality of the lake waters. Bear Lake Preservation Association volunteers submit monthly lake water samples to University of Florida IFAS Lake watch for analysis and reports of lake water conditions for all four lakes. Additionally, BLPA maintains a healthy relationship with the Seminole County commissioners for the four lakes area. BLPA volunteers work closely with Seminole County storm water engineers and SJRWMD officials to insure the lake residents' concerns are conveyed to each governing body. The 2023/2024 year included many accomplishments. The newsletter and Fall BBQ flyer were sent out in October 2023. The fall general meeting for the area featured Dr. Harvey Harper with ERD and an alum update for Bear Lake including the obstacles with DEP. Further alum treatment for Bear Lake is on hold for now. BLPA supported and funded the purchase of 84 triploid carp to manage SAV in Little Bear Lake. The fall community dinner featured a presentation by Lake watch (UF/IFAS) with Jason "Mo" Bennet (Regional coordinator for the Bear Lakes area). Nancy Dunn and the volunteers for the Lake Watch program were honored at the annual meeting this past spring with UF/IFAS in Seminole County. Continued efforts are carried out to include the new personnel within the Seminole County storm water division and SJRWMD.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2023 – Jun 30, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$4K
