    Membership: The AAN continued to prove its value to neurology in 2023 by maintaining record membership recruitment and retention. Neurologists and neuroscience professionals from around the world make up more than 40,000 AAN members.

  • Neurology Training and Resources

    Training/Tools/Resources: The AAN prepared members for a new track that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) established within the Quality Payment Program (QPP) called MIPS Value Pathways (MVP), which was available in 2023. The AAN prepared resources on the three MVPs relevant to neurology: Stroke, Episodic Neurological Conditions, and Neurodegenerative Conditions. Finally, the AAN facilitated support and increased visibility of the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act by leading a coalition of organizations in support of the act, organizing coalition group events with Senate and House offices, and creating resources.

  • Scientific Publications Initiative

    Publications: The publication of scientific, scholarly, and practice-related content is a vital part of the AAN's activities and essential to the careers of its members. The AAN's publications offer this content and resources to Academy members and provide an opportunity to generate revenue that helps keep membership dues low. Several of these important publications saw enhancements in 2023. The AAN's flagship Neurology(R) journal moved to a new, streamlined system for submitting research manuscripts and decreasing turnaround times. It also migrated to a new web platform that increased accessibility and discoverability of article content. Finally, the entire Neurology family of journals shifted to continuous publishing, decreasing time to final publication of an accepted article by six weeks.
