Rosenwald Schools Documentary Project
Rosenwald Schools of Virginia. 30 minute film documenting the unique role the Rosenwald Schools played in educating African American children in Virginia during the Jim Crow era. Virginia is the birthplace of Booker T. Washington and is the home of Hampton Institute where he was educated and later taught. The film also highlights several other notable African Americans who made major contributions to black education in Virginia with the hope that this will be used to develop understanding of how difficult it was for African American children to get a decent education and the role Rosenwald Schools played in overcoming this difficulty and open paths of understanding between the races.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$45.4KSiloam School Restoration Project
Siloam School Restoration. Film documenting the moving and restoration of the Siloam School to its final home, The Charlotte Museum of History. Siloam School is the last of the Rosenwald design school remaining in Mecklenburg County. It was moved to the grounds of the Charlotte Museum of History where it will become a permanent exhibit portraying the history of African American education in the setting of a 1927 school house restored to the original. School Groups schedule regular excursions to the school during the years they study North Carolina and American History. It is the only such school that is restored to the way it was in the 1920's when the school was built meaning no electricity or air conditioning so that the visitors can really feel what the experience was students in that period of history.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$9KUnlocking The Doors Of Opportunity Film Forums
