Disability Support and Independent Living Services
MAVI operates two living centers in the Northern and Metro Region of Puerto Rico. Almost one thousand one hundred people with disabilities receive core services consisting of independent skills trainings advocacy peer counseling information and referral and transitions services. Other services received by our participants includes adapted transportation assistive technology donations of assistive equipment computer classes psychology services support groups adapted sport activities sign language course and socialization activities among others. During 2021-2022 our 4 centers impacted over 300 people with disabilities with our direct services. This does no include the thousands impacted with our outreach services in fairs radio and television programs and social media exposure. The Caribbean Incentive Planning and Assistance Program CWIPA operate throughout the island of Puerto Rico including Vieques Culebra and US Virgin Islands. The program provides benefit planning and assistance to social security disability beneficiaries that are currently working or contemplating returning to work. The program provides beneficiaries a test period so they transition to work without the fear of losing their social security benefits. The support employment program is financed by Puerto Rico Vocational Rehabilitation Administration. The goal of the program is to find employment for participants while providing on the job training with the goal of allowing participants to maintain the jobs on their own.
