MERIDIAN CANINE RESCUE

Programs
Program 1 [2020]
MCR accepts owner surrendered and transferred dogs into its custody for the purpose of adoption, provides community support services to defer surrenders and educate the public, assists in Idaho state shelter coalition efforts, and offers human/dog training based on the latest research in canine behavior science. In 2020, the organization provided pre- and post-adoption counseling to hundreds of families and found homes for 121 dogs. There was a total of 108 intakes, including 15 at-risk animals from other shelters, and MCR provided them with food, shelter, medical care, and daily enrichment activities. The organization redesigned its facility in order to promote behavioral health, creating tiny houses and alternative living spaces for the dogs in residence. Its canine rehabilitation efforts were shared with the public to foster dialogue about behavior and training, and its staff conducted 10 public classes or workshops on various topics. MCR welcomed and trained 53 new volunteers and 14 new fosters in 2020.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$175.8KCanine Rescue and Education Programs
Meridian Canine Rescue (MCR) has the following programs: Adoption, Dog Care, Behavior and Training, EPIC, and Volunteer & Foster. In 2022, we prioritized our efforts in our 1) Dog Care program by food, shelter, medical care, behavior health and daily enrichment activities; 2) Behavior and Training program where we have a part time employee dedicated to building teaching materials and a structured behavior consultation system that supported hundreds of owners that are struggling with dog behaviors; and 3) Education Program for Inmates & Canines (EPIC) was launched in 2022 where we developed a robust program that holistically supports dogs, incarcerated individuals and correction officers. We also collaborated with other shelters where we were able to transfer dogs to this program from the Idaho Humane Society and Rexburg Animal Shelter with the opportunity to expand this program in 2023 to help more families and shelters in the state of Idaho.MCR is one of the few organizations in the area that focus on dogs with behavioral issues; our organization provides low stress shelter environments that have a tremendous impact on the success of our training and rehabilitation program. MCR also educates the public, particularly adopters, to better care for their own dogs. In addition, MCR collaborates with other organizations in the area to transfer dogs that require special training and assessment to be ready for adoption.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$161.8K
