Program 1 [2021]
The CCL focuses on improving quality of life for senior citizens in SW Oklahoma. The CCL offers programs to teach & encourage physical wellness, nutrition & diet; emotional/social wellness; and intellectual wellness. Without the CCL there would be increased rates of isolation, depression, injury, illness, and early death among our senior citizens. CCL is a critical component in the aging continuum of care and fills an important need for senior citizens. Active, healthy aging not only benefits individuals, but communities as well. Active seniors are more engaged, volunteer more, and generally add value to the overall fabric of a thriving community. The CCL serves almost 6,000 senior citizens in SW Oklahoma. The senior nutrition program was designed to help seniors learn about nutrition and provide a nutritious, healthy meals at least three days a week. The CCL nutrition program provides a variety of foods from each food group to help reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. We also have five routes and serve 90+ meals to homebound senior citizens. They are the most at risk seniors (and that is before COVID-19).The CCL serves senior citizens age 55 and older. However, the most prominent age group served at the CCL is from age 81 to age 91. We are literally serving our Greatest Generation. This population has been predicted to grow by 1000 a year for the next 10 years in Comanche County alone. This population is the largest growing population ever recorded in history. The CCL takes every precaution in protecting the senior population, employees, and volunteers from viruses and illnesses. We adhere to all guidance from the CDC, the Comanche County Health Dept., and other local officials. We continued serving meals, curbside and Home Delivered, during the Pandemic. The CCL staff never faltered, even when warnings were to stay at home. The CCL staff is committed to our mission and truly have hearts of servants.
