GICA Initiatives: Maintain optimal situational awareness for membership regarding the status and conditions throughout the GIWW to facilitate safe and efficient cargo movements minimizing supply chain impacts. Maintain and implement the Gulf Inland Waterways Joint Hurricane Response Protocol optimizing interagency and whole of government response operations during tropical weather events facilitating rapid maritime transportation system recovery post-storm. Advocate for GIWW improvements with key stakeholders including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, and various state departments of transportation. Ensure coastal protection and restoration initiatives and both commercial and private expansion along the GIWW consider the needs of the navigation industry during initial project development. GICA Seminar: Planned and executed two day seminar to discuss key Gulf Intracoastal Waterway navigation safety issues for over 200 attendees. Participants included senior U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) leadership including all (6) U.S. Coast Guard captains of the port, all three (3) USACE district commanders, NOAA, LADOTD, TXDOTD, and numerous other state and local agencies as well as GICA membership.
