  • Historic Preservation and Restoration

    Continued preservation, stabilization, planning and restoration of National Register-listed and State Historic Landmark houses for future use as museums, gift shop/gallery/tour office & an archaeology field school workshop. Cedar oil treatment on all walls and ceilings in 2 historic houses;continued architectural and engineering planning for a historic cottage to become the Gift Shop/Gallery/Tour office; installed all new electrical wiring and security lighting in J. Vance Lewis historic house; salvaged and installed 100 year old wood for floors of J. Vance Lewis house; reinstalled tarp and termite treatment and fumigation to preserve an 1891 Pullum house and a 1912 Yates house; installed a donated tarp on storm damaged roof of the Pullum house; installed central vacuum system in J. Vance Lewis museum house. he

  • UNESCO Sites of Memory Initiative

    Two historic sites owned by RBHYates Museum was awarded Sites of Memory associated to the UNESCO-Slave Route in March 2019. In 2022, under the direction of the Research Historian, and the Archaeologist/Curator, several paid university archaeology student interns, new archaeology reports were added to several of the original 74 UNESCO nominations under consideration. The properties are within the National Register Historic District of Freedmens Town & the related sites from Texas to Mexico.

  • Archaeology Education and Preservation

    Continue contract for part-time Archaeologist/Curator; provided internships to 2 University of Houstons archaeology students to process and create exhibits of 19th and 20th century artifacts from the museums vast collection; provided an internship for 1 Prairie View A & M University architechture student to assist with architectural plans for 2 historic museum houses; removed, restored, and reinstalled historic windows into Nixon house, the Archaeology Workshop, hosted 32 tour groups and 5 student field trips from schools in Harris County; we hosted Preservation Volunteer working weekends for employees of 2 companies, 2 international clubs, and one religious organization.
