Historic Preservation and Restoration
Continued preservation, stabilization, planning and restoration of National Register-listed and State Historic Landmark houses for future use as museums, gift shop/gallery/tour office & an archaeology field school workshop. Cedar oil treatment on all walls and ceilings in 2 historic houses;continued architectural and engineering planning for a historic cottage to become the Gift Shop/Gallery/Tour office; installed all new electrical wiring and security lighting in J. Vance Lewis historic house; salvaged and installed 100 year old wood for floors of J. Vance Lewis house; reinstalled tarp and termite treatment and fumigation to preserve an 1891 Pullum house and a 1912 Yates house; installed a donated tarp on storm damaged roof of the Pullum house; installed central vacuum system in J. Two historic sites owned by RBHYates Museum was awarded Sites of Memory associated to the UNESCO-Slave Route in March 2019. In 2022, under the direction of the Research Historian, and the Archaeologist/Curator, several paid university archaeology student interns, new archaeology reports were added to several of the original 74 UNESCO nominations under consideration.
