Academic Competitions and Scholarships
The Foundation provided the platform for over 400 students to compete in various academic competitions. Competition awards of $3,100 were awarded. Additionally, a scholarship fund provided 5 students with awards totaling $2,250.The Academic Decathlon event was held online on January 18 and in-person on January 26 and February 3, 2024, for high school students. This event involved approximately 124 students and 56 community volunteers. Classroom study materials were provided for the school sites and supplies, support services, materials, food, scholarships and awards were provided for the various competitions. Online platform and essay reader fees were paid from the Foundation account. The state competition registration fees were also allocated.The Academic Pentathlon event for middle school students was held online on February 14 and in-person on March 9, 2024. Approximately 136 students were served in this program. Study materials, supplies, support services, materials, food, and awards were provided. Online platform and essay reader fees were paid from the Foundation account.The Mock Trial high school competition was held online on February 7, 13, 15, and 27, 2024, and served approximately 71 students. Materials, food, supplies, awards and a portion of the state competition registration fees were provided.The Battle of the Books competition for elementary students was held on December 8, 2023. Fourteen schools participated and totaled 23 teams with about 180 students participating. Supplies, support services, and awards were provided.The Math Tournament middle school competition was held in-person on April 12, 2024 and served approximately 176 students. The event is supported with registration fees from participating schools, donations, and a grant from California Mathematics Council. Food, supplies, and awards were provided.The ArtsFest event was held on May 11, 2024. Students in grades K-12 submitted 331 pieces in the categories of 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional and still photography for the art competition.
