Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz
Programs
Program 1 [2020]
Program Service Accomplishments for 2020 included the following:1) Other promotions for legal and sustainable outdoor access in Santa Cruz County through trail building, events and advocacy.2) One of our largest accomplishments of 2020 was the construction and opening ofSaratoga-to-the-Skyline, a 4-mile hiking trail that connects Saratoga Quarry Park to Sanborn County Park. This project was a major time commitment for our team as well as a revenue generator for our organization.3) We also completed construction of the Sawpit Trail reroute in Soquel Demonstration State Forest. This all-new mile of singletrack brings fun new outdoor access to adventurous mountain bikers throughout the region.4) When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the area, we worked with local land managers to develop and distribute trail use guidelines to help keep the community healthy. In addition to physical and digital marketing, we also coordinated socially distanced volunteer tabling opportunities to engage with trail users at popular trail heads.5) The Santa Cruz Mountains were ravaged by wildfire in August of 2020. Post-fire, we led a sweepstakes giveaway and raised $180,000 to rebuild trails throughout Big Basin, Butano, and Fall Creek Unit of Henry Cowell State Parks.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.3MSustainable Trails and Community Engagement
In 2023, we continued building and maintaining sustainable trails across the Santa Cruz Mountains region and engaging the public in stewardship events. Our professional SCMTS Trail Crew completed five miles of new trail construction out at Cotoni-Coast Dairies, wrapped up fire restoration work in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, and opened the Glorya Jean Tate Park Pump Track to the public in Marina, CA. They also completed essential storm recovery work in Soquel Demonstration State Forest, Wilder Ranch State Park, Pogonip Open Space Preserve, and Seacliff State Beach. Stewardship programming engaged 914 volunteers in trail stewardship, 747 of whom joined us for trail work for the very first time. Together, we completed 5,254 hours of trail work in open spaces throughout the region, expanded trail-building skills amongst community members, and educated many volunteers about the importance of sustainable trail maintenance and development. New programs aimed at teens and LGBTQIA+ communities engaged under served groups.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.6M
