THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE MISSOULA CULTURAL COUNCIL, DBA ARTS MISSOULA FOR THE FISCAL YEAR WERE:SISTER CITY PARTNERSHIP WITH NECKARGEMUEND, GERMANY AND PALMERSTON NORTH, NEW ZEALAND. THE SISTER CITY PROGRAM IS TO PROMOTE CITIZEN DIPLOMACY, ONE INDIVIDUAL AND ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME. THE MAIN EVENTS ARE GERMANFEST AND NEW ZEALAND DAYS.THE OFFICE OF GLOBAL AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS DEVELOPS LOCAL PROGRAMMING PROMOTING CULTURAL DIPLOMACY. THIS INCLUDES A MONTHLY "WORLD VIEW FILM SERIES", A FREE COMMUNITY SCREENING FROM A DIFFERENT PART OF THE WORLD THAT FOCUSES ON HOW THE ARTS ARE INTEGRAL TO OTHER CULTURES. WE HAVE CONTINUED WITH REMOTE CLASSES AND A NEW PODCAST - "INTERNATIONAL VOICES" ON A MONTHLY BASIS. THE PODCASTS ARE AVAILABLE AT WWW.ARTSMISSOULA.ORG.SPARK! ARTS IGNITE LEARNING; THE LOCAL ARTS EDUCATION INITIATIVE OF THE KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS' ANY GIVEN CHILD PROGRAM. ARTS MISSOULA IS THE HOME AND FISCAL AGENT FOR THIS INITIATIVE. SPARK! PROVIDED ART KITS TO LOW INCOME STUDENTS IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER, AND HAS FOCUSED REMOTE LESSONS ON SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS IN ALL K-8 CLASSROOMS.FIRST NIGHT MISSOULA, NEW YEAR'S EVE COMMUNITY-WIDE, ALCOHOL-FREE CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS IS NOW THE LARGEST SINGLE EVENT PRODUCED BY ARTS MISSOULA. THERE ARE MORE THAN 80 ARTS EVENTS AND ACTIVITES IN OVER 35 COMMUNITY VENUES.ARTS MISSOULA HOSTS AN ANNUAL CULTURAL AWARDS LUNCH EACH SPRING FOR OVER 200 COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THIS EVENT CELEBRATES THE WORK OF SELECTED INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO MISSOULA'S ART AND CULTURAL COMMUNITY IN THEIR LIFETIME, AND ALSO RECOGNIZES BUSINESSES THAT HAVE MADE SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ARTS. ARTS MISSOULA STAR PROGRAM RECOGNIZES AN ARTIST OR MUSICIAN, A BUSINESS LEADER WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THE ARTS, A SCHOOLTEACHER, OR A VOLUNTEER EACH MONTH.ARTS MISSOULA HAS COORDINATED THE GATHERING OF NATIONAL STATISTICS THAT POINT TO THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF A STRONG ARTS SECTOR IN OUR COMMUNITY. ARTS AND ECONOMIC PROSPERITY 5, A REPORT ON THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF NONPROFIT ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AND THEIR AUDIENCES LED BY AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS, IS A FIVE-YEAR STUDY THAT LAST CAME OUT IN 2017. MISSOULA WAS ONE OF 380 STUDY GROUPS NATIONALLY. MISSOULA WAS RANKED #4 NATIONALLY FOR MID-SIZED CITIES IN THE 2019 ARTS VIBRANCY INDEX. IN 2020, MISSOULA RANKED #10 IN THE NATION FOR THE 30 MOST CREATIVE SMALL CITIES. ALL THREE NATIONAL STUDIES ARE AVAILABLE AT WWW.ARTSMISSOULA.ORG.ARTS MISSOULA HAS OFFERED ITSELF AS AN UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION FOR GROUPS SEEKING A NONPROFIT FISCAL SPONSORSHIP. MONTANA BOOK FESTIVAL LAKEBOTTOM SOUND JAZZ CONCERTS, WORKSHOPS AND JAM SESSIONS ALL-CITY JAZZ PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS MONTANA AREA MUSIC ASSOCIATION (MAMA)ARTS MISSOULA HAS BEEN THE ADMINISTRATION ARM OF THE CITY OF MISSOULA PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE SINCE FEBRUARY 2016. THE PARTNERSHIP HAS INCREASED THE CITY'S COMMITMENT TO ARTS MISSOULA WITH ADDITIONAL FUNDING AND NOW THE ORGANIZATION HAS A LONG-TERM CONTRACT WITH THE CITY. ARTS MISSOULA COORDINATES THE COMMUNITY-WIDE EVENT PLANNING CALENDAR WITH MISSOULAEVENTS.NET AS AN EFFORT TO HELP ORGANIZATIONS WITH LONG-TERM PLANNING FOR ANNUAL AND SPECIAL EVENTS.WE PRODUCE A WEEKLY E-MAIL NEWSLETTER TO NEARLY 1500 SUBSCRIBERS. THIS COVERS NEWS AND EVENTS IN MISSOULA, IN THE NORTHERN ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION, AND COVERS NEWS STORIES AND TRENDS NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. THE WEBSITE CONTAINS A LISTING OF THE ARTISTS, ORGANIZATIONS, EVENTS, VENUE SITES, GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS IN MISSOULA.THROUGHOUT 2021 THE ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION COMMITTEE OF ARTS MISSOULA HAS BEEN PLANNING TO ROLL OUT AN ARTIST GRANT PROGRAM FOR INDIVIDUAL LOCAL ARTISTS, THROUGH THE ARTS MISSOULA PATRON FUND. THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE MISSOULA CULTURAL COUNCIL, DBA ARTS MISSOULA FOR THE FISCAL YEAR WERE:1. Community Arts Programs & EventsArts Missoula produced multiple large-scale community events that celebrate Missoula and provided free and low-cost arts experiences for residents and visitors.Missoula on Main (New Years Eve Festival):Our annual two-day celebration featured dozens of performances, workshops, and activities across multiple venues. The festival showcased local musicians, dancers, theatre artists, teen performers, and multicultural groups, drawing thousands of participants and strengthening community connection.Germanfest:Arts Missoula hosted its annual Sister City festival honoring Missoulas relationship with Neckargemnd, Germany. With traditional music, vendors, cultural demonstrations, and family-friendly games, Germanfest drew more than 1,500 attendees in Caras Park.First Friday & Downtown Support:We strengthened downtown vibrancy by promoting First Friday exhibitions through radio, community calendars, monthly newsletter highlighting events and extensive social media support.2. Education, Youth Programs & Neighborhood OutreachArts Missoula delivered arts learning opportunities for young people and families throughout Missoula, with emphasis on neighborhoods lacking access to arts programming.Cultural Feast (Summer Outreach Program):In partnership with the Missoula Food Bank, we brought arts programmingdance, clay arts, cultural education, and hands-on creativitydirectly into underserved neighborhoods such as Futura Mobile Home Park in West Missoula. This work provided access for children who live far from arts opportunities, bus routes, or grocery services. Instructors included professional artists, and the program created meaningful connections.Youth Showcases:We produced Spotlight Teen Singing Competition during Missoula on Main, providing young performers with coaching, adjudication, and performance opportunities led by professional musicians and arts educators.3. Advocacy, Cultural Leadership & PlanningAs Missoulas local arts agency, Arts Missoula plays a leadership role in cultural policy, civic collaboration, and local-to-national arts advocacy.Cultural Planning:In FY24, Arts Missoula advanced the development of Missoulas first cultural plan in 35 years, in partnership with the City of Missoula Parks & Recreation Department. The plan will guide long-term arts goals, infrastructure needs, creative workforce support, and community engagement.Arts Advocacy:As the Montana District Captain for Americans for the Arts, Arts Missoula participated in national advocacy efforts and engaged state and local partners to promote the vital role of the arts in economic development, education, and community well-being.Economic Impact & Research:Though not a survey year, Arts Missoula continues to report out on the impact of the arts on Missoulas local economy and celebrates the data that shows us artists are small businesses and the backbone of our community. 4. Digital Access, Directories & CommunicationsArts Missoula invested deeply in tools that make the arts more discoverable, accessible, and inclusive.Arts Missoula Directory App:We advanced the development of our community-friendly arts directory app, which maps artists, arts organizations, venues, and public art throughout Missoula. This platform expands access for residents, visitors, and partners by offering a centralized, searchable resource.5. Fiscal Sponsorship & Sector SupportArts Missoula provided administrative, financial, and strategic support to several emerging and established arts organizations through our fiscal sponsorship program. FY24 sponsored projects included:Grow Music MissoulaMissoula All-City JazzWheels on the Bus Mobile Ceramics StudioIndigenous Made MissoulaNo Joke TheatreSculpture Missoula Fiscal sponsorship enables these projects to operate with nonprofit benefits while focusing on their artistic missions.
