Adult Basic Education Program
108 participants enrolled to learn basic reading, writing and math skills through one-to-one and small group instruction. Students are 16 or older and are not enrolled in public school. They seek to improve their lives and the lives of their families through education. 25 students completed high school and 18 entered college or other training. 48 students received scholarships for testing fees ranging $15 to $75 per person and totalling $2,581. Checks were written to the test center so they could not be used for anything else. Family Literacy activites included the distribution of 586 new books to low-income children 0-5 years old and enrolled in Head Start or Early Head Start. Books were purchased with funds from the Kiwanis and distributions were staffed by volunteers. Explanation of grants: 60 students received scholarships for testing fees ranging from $15 to $75 per person and totaling $2,619.
