    In early 2020, Y Combinator Research changed its name to Open Research Lab and launched a new website and branding. Despite the pandemic, the Basic Income project finished recruiting and enrolling participants for its randomized controlled trial on unconditional cash assistance. Enrollment interviews were conducted. The team of primary investigators evaluating the program registered pre-analysis plans. The team also applied for and received several grants to fund its research. The Dynamicland project continued developing its Realtalk computing system, though the pandemic limited public outreach and visits.

  • Basic Income Research Project

    In 2022, the Organization completed the second full year of its randomized controlled trial on unconditional cash assistance as part of its Basic Income Project. The research team conducted additional surveys for all participants and in-depth qualitative interviews. The Organization also applied for additional grants to fund its research. The Organization continued advising and collaborating with other groups conducting cash assistance programs and partnered with other research organizations to deepen understanding of complex societal and technological questions, including analysis of the economic impacts of AI.

An additional research service was provided by the Organization focused on investigating the economic impacts of AI.
