Hixon Dance Community Dance Education Program
Hixon Dance Community Dance Education Program provides enriching and well-rounded movement classes for ages 2 through adult. The program served approximately 200 students with weekly classes in various dance styles, composition classes, and health/wellness. The program objective is to offer students movement education that emphasizes student creativity and collaboration, body-positivity and building healthy technique, and creating a trauma-informed and safe environment for learning. Hixon Dance Company is a professional performing arts ensemble dedicated to the creation and performance of new works of Modern dance. Several new works were generated in collaboration with a 5 musicians, 8 dancers, and 1 music director and presented to the public in multiple presentations. It received high audience and critical acclaim, with over 300 audience in attendance. The company also presented a showcase of works by local independent dance makers in multiple public performances. Works were selected by professionals in the field through an adjudication process that provided feedback to all participants. 6 artists were chosen as finalists to have their work produced publicly. The adjudicator panel always includes experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, etc.) Over 250 audience attended these events.
