Community Development and Legal Support
Neighborhood Legal Support pursued litigation involving approximately 50 blighted properties to get the property owners to make repairs to their properties to turn them into good quality homes. If the owners refused, we pursued litigation to require them to repair or give up the properties. We have run out of blighted and abandoned properties to pursue in the Lykins Neighborhood and have started a second focused community development project in the Oak Park Neighborhood. We recruited, screened and monitored rehabbers and builders to turn blighted houses in the Lykins neighborhood into good quality, affordable homes for working families. As part of this work, we led the neighborhood in reviewing applications of rehabbers to repair approximately 15 blighted houses. We oversaw programing of several activities in the neighborhood. Notably, when we started the project the Lykins Square Park was regularly a crime scene. Now, it is a wonderful, healthy hub for the community. Roughly 160 neighborhood children now practice soccer in the Park 4 nights per week. We also oversee English as a second language classes and computer literacy classes at the Lykins Community Resource Center, which we had built.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$0
