Program 1 [2021]
Housing Community Arts Program: Our objective is to promote intercultural understanding and provide support to immigrant and low to moderate income communities to help them succeed in school and life. In the process, we support diverse artists by providing an opportunity for them to share their talents and further their career. This program includes Youth ArtBeat, where we engage with elementary age children after school, using many forms of cultural and visual arts to help them learn to express themselves and work in harmony with others. We provide quality programming, hiring diverse teaching artists who help build self-esteem. This program also includes the African Arts, Culture and Education (ACE) Academy after-school program serving primarily African immigrant and refugee families in Takoma Park and Silver Spring, MD. A child's success requires the support of the family. Together with partner organizations, we offer Healthy Families | Healthy Communities which is a variety of creative arts and supportive programs that build community, deepen and strengthen connection, provide mutual support, and foster school and community engagement. For the senior communities, we have an Arts Alive series that can be tailored to the community needs. This program is offered through creative partnerships with housing organizations, other nonprofits and companies, an amazingly talented pool of teaching and master artists, and the generosity of individuals and city, county and state funders.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$43.2KProgram 2 [2021]
Community Outreach Arts Program: Our objective is to create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together through the arts, connect as community, explore varied cultures, and experience personal growth and joy. Our programs include monthly Community Family Sings, Jump Start wih the Arts and its Family Fun Night, and new in April 2021 the Daily Antidote of Song. Each of these programs was delivered virtually throughout the fiscal year, due to Covid precautions and restrictions. Each monthly Community Family Sing is themed around the federal calendar of national heritage months and holidays. Artists who reflect the celebrated heritage are selected to showcase their music. In 2021, we also premiered monthly a new happy birthday song, written by one of our artists specifically for our program and we highlight both community members and public figures who celebrate their birthday in that month with a beautiful video tribute. Jump Start with the Arts is an early childhood arts enrichment program that provides a jump-start to healthy and joyful social and cognitive development by offering memorable, educational, developmentally appropriate and culturally diverse experiences through the Arts. Daily Antidote of Song is a new, daily Zoom & FB Live production, initially focused on diminishing feelings of isolation among the newly homebound due to Covid-restrictions on activities. This community has evolved to include the elderly, shut-ins, disabled and music lovers in general from 48 states and 15 countries to date.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$25.4KProgram 3 [2021]
Summer Arts Camp Program: At weeklong sleepaway arts camp on Maryland's Eastern Shore, campers are provided a safe space to explore new art forms, see the world through a fresh lens, and build friendships. The primary focus is on the visual arts, with a healthy dose of song and dance, outdoor activities and field trips. Our weeklong day camps are located in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring area of Maryland. Our summer 2020 in-person camps were canceled due to Covid restrictions, so we ran a series of virtual arts education programs called Summer ArtVentures in response to parents' requests for arts activities for their kids. We served 93 students and employed 11 artists with such topics as photography, journaling, songwriting and more. Note: While revenue from our summer 2021 camp activities fall into the following year, the 2021 camps impacted our balance sheet data in this fiscal year being reported. Deferred Revenue (Part X, Line 19) increased as a result of pre-payments by campers.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$13K
