Sahasee Embers Community Center Initiative
Sahasee (“courageous” in Hindi) Embers Community Center is a beacon of hope serving women and children living in red-light districts in Mumbai, India. Once a brothel, it now serves the community as a daycare center, emergency shelter, community center, legal aid clinic, and education and livelihood training center. For children born into brothels, Sahasee Embers is a safe place to rest, play, learn, and sleep, and for women trapped in sex trade, the center provides a caring community where they can learn new skills that lead to freedom from exploitation and abuse. Our Sahasee Embers children have a chance to experience a future filled with freedom and hope, and through our various programs, families have a chance to break free from generational violence and bondage. As the name Sahasee Embers implies, we see those whom our center serves as courageous little flames. Why Support Sahasee Embers Community Center Initiative? Funding Sahasee Embers Community Center sustains its critical operations, ensuring that every program—from daycare to legal aid—continues to transform lives. The Generational Restoration and Children’s Education Initiative (“G.R.A.C.E. Initiative”) provides our Sahasee Embers children, born into brothels and/or living in a red-light district in Mumbai, India, seeks to break the cycle of generational poverty, exploitation, and marginalization by equipping children with the tools to shape their own futures. Through enrollment in pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools, complemented by wraparound services, the program ensures that children receive not only academic instruction but also emotional, physical, and social support. The vision is to nurture a generation of empowered individuals who rise above their circumstances, pursue their dreams, and inspire positive change in their communities. The G.R.A.C.E. Initiative offers a comprehensive, child-centered approach to education and development, addressing the multifaceted needs of children in Mumbai’s red-light districts. Its core components include: - Access to Quality Education -After-School Programs - Counseling and Emotional Support - Nutrition and Health Checkups - Extracurricular Activities Funding the G.R.A.C.E. Initiative sustains its ability to provide life-changing opportunities for children in Mumbai’s red-light districts. The Legacy Education Project is a transformative initiative designed to break cycles of poverty, exploitation, and marginalization by providing at-risk youth and survivors of trafficking with access to higher education, career readiness, and leadership development. By addressing systemic barriers and providing comprehensive support, the program enables participants to become the first in their families to attend college, unlocking pathways to economic independence and social impact. The vision is to cultivate a network of resilient, purpose-driven leaders who uplift their communities and inspire the next generation to follow in their footsteps. The Legacy Education Project offers a holistic approach to empower participants, combining educational access with personalized support and professional development. Upon securing employment, Legacy Education graduates are invited to contribute to the education of future students through mentorship, advocacy, or financial support. Our pay-it-forward model creates a sustainable cycle of opportunity, where each graduate’s success fuels the next generation’s potential. Alumni also participate in networking events and peer support groups, strengthening the Legacy Education community. Funding the Legacy Education Project sustains its ability to empower at-risk youth and trafficking survivors with life-changing opportunities.
