50 Million TexansWe seek equitable, sustainable regional growth strategies for Texas metropolitan regions, so allow the state to provide healthy, affordable housing and lifestyles for the growing number of Texans without destroying our local and global environment. In 2020, we maintained a focus on the Austin region, with the beginnings of programs in other metro regions. Signature achievements include publication of the Allocation Game report and the broad acceptance of equitable Transit Oriented Development as a crucial policy arena at the City of Austin and Capital Metro, including $300 million in eTOD / anti-displacement funds included in Austin's Prop A transit funding referendum.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––Program 3 [2020]
Texas Friends of TransitFor every dollar per capita spent on transit in Houston, there are seven dollars spent per capita in Seattle. Texas uniquely under funds public transportation, hindering our economies, communities, and access for opportunities. In 2020, we established a statewide coalition of pro-transit nonprofits and community groups, which began having monthly meetings, supporting each other in local compaigns, and began educating the public and the legislature on the need for comprehensive reform to the Texas transportation planning system to allow for efficiently investing in public transportation access for all. As part of strategic planning with this coalition, we renamed this effort Texas Friends of Transit.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––
