During 2024, Karuna rescued one horse from neglect. This horse, plus the 21 additional received extensive medical care and rehabilitation, both physical and emotional. The organization accomplishes its mission through the all-volunteer effort of the board of directors and thirty community members. Karuna continues to care for an additional four horses through sponsorship and expense reimbursement at a permanent horse sanctuary in Northern California, where the rescued animals continue in rehabilitation.
