Student Sponsorship Program in Rural Zambia
Student Sponsorship: Families in communities living in poverty in rural Zambia struggle to send children to school. Although the government now covers tuition, students still need uniform, shoes, socks, exercise books, pens and pencils. As pupils progress through the grades they need maths sets and scientific calculators, and all of this is beyond the financial means of many rural families who survive by subsistence farming. The children who are accepted into the sponsorship scheme may be orphans or classed as vulnerable. Some have parents who are too ill to work or grow enough crops to be able provide an income as well as food for the family. The scholarship program provides students in rural Zambia with the tools and materials needed to go through secondary school, rather than being forced to stay home with all which that entails (working on the farm, having families as teenagers and having no hope for change). 11 students were sponsored at Secondary School level as well as 1 at university level during 2024.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$44.8KProject Luangwa

We also were able to bring in a dedicated Digilearn coach to work with all the 7 teachers at Kapita to enhance their IT skills. This expansion of digital learning meant a vast improvement in test scores and an overall improvement across all grades.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$18KChikowa Vocational Training School

We finished financing the building of teacher housing for two of the teachers and their families. We also paid for the purchase and installation of solar panels to support the school during the power outages (drought and climate change are affecting the massive reservoir in Zambia which is at 6%).GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$16.5K
