  • Change the Outcome (CTO) Program

    EDUCATION: Change the Outcome (CTO) has provided substance use prevention education, primarily focused on opioids, to over 130,000 students, educators, and parents across Minnesota since 2017. In 2024 alone, we presented to 30,000 individuals in more than 110 middle and high schools. We survey nearly all of our attendees, and they consistently report that our program is highly impactful and effective. In 2024, 95% of students aged 12-18 indicated they would be more careful when deciding whether to take a pill or substance after learning from CTO. Additionally, 97% felt that others their age would benefit from the program. Our audience members have given us an average overall rating of 9 out of 10 (with 1 being poor and 10 being excellent). Our data shows a significant increase in comprehension across several key areas. Knowledge of Narcan, Good Samaritan Laws, pressed pills, the role of mental health in substance use, identifying and assessing risks of developing a substance use disorder, recognizing an overdose, and safe medication disposal increased by an average of 60%. We are proud to share that CTO is invited to return to schools in the upcoming school year 100% of the time.
