After-School Educational Programming
After-school programming inspires youth to reach their fullest potential through education and real life experiences. The program is offered Monday - Thursday from 3 PM - 6 PM, at a time when many students would otherwise be home alone while parents/guardians are at work. Students work in a structured, safe, happy, compassionate and encouraging environment that promotes the next generation of leaders. In 2022, 19 high school students and 28 K-8 students benefited from the program. The students Educational activities included the following: one-on-one tutoring,STEM activities; bi-weekly financial literacy sessions, and Project Lit sessions that also included a book signing with Author Justin Reynolds. The students College and Career Readiness activities included the following: bi-weekly sessions with My Path of Mahoning Valley; one-on-one sessions with the Program Career Assistant where scholars worked on their Career Portfolio; professional guest speakers; community college fair events; and an HBCU CollegeFair in Cleveland. The students Exposure to New Experiences activities included activities such as rock climbing; sewing; learning how to iron and a Sip and Paint. The students were actively engaged in activities to promote their Personal Development, such as performing in dance recits, musical plays, school band concert events, sports, hosting their Annual IM Awards Ceremony and Im Mom Mothers Day Celebration. Summer enrichment programming is a combination of fun activities that focus on all Impact Areas - Education, College & Career Readiness, Health & Wellness, Personal Development and Exposure to New Experiences. The summer program runs Monday - Thursday (Fridays, as scheduled) from 8 AM - 3:30 PM. Summer enrichment helps students retain knowledge they would normally lose during the summer from being off of school. All of which is done in an environment surrounded with positive role models that can lead them to a promising future.In 2022, 19 high school students and 31 K-8 students participated in summer enrichment. Activities included weekly swimming; mental wellness sessions; bowling; skating; weekly sessions with the physical fitness coach and at the YMCA; bi-weekly nutritional classes; college and career readiness sessions with My Path of Mahoning Valley; sessions/activities with YUMADOP (Youngstown Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program); sessions with an etiquette coach; and cooking classes. Some of the scholars participated in a STEM camp. Other field trips and activities included the following: Color Coded picnic; Family Fun Day; Fun and Stuff Park; strawberry picking; sip and paint; Top Golf Pittsburgh; college and industry tours.
