    Despite the global health crisis, Boulanger Initiative continued to deliver world-class performances and insightful education programming both in-person and online. We continued our research work and identified hundreds of gender marginalized composers. Additionally, in the past year, we launched a new composer mentorship program for aspiring artists that works across all three areas of our mission to promote women and gender marginalized music through commissions, education, and presentation.

  • Boulanger Initiative

    Boulanger Initiative presented high-quality, easily accessible performances and educational programming in-person and virtually. We continued our research work identifying the works of hundreds of gender marginalized composers and created a prototype database to house this information. In the past year we also launched Redefining the Canon, a program that partners with orchestras nationwide and aims to update the most widely-used orchestral audition excerpts to include excerpts by historically underrepresented composers

    BOULANGER INITIATIVE PRESENTED HIGH-QUALITY PERFORMANCES AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING IN-PERSON AND VIRTUALLY. WE ARE CONTINUING OUR RESEARCH IDENTIFYING THE WORKS OF THOUSANDS OF GENDER MARGINALIZED COMPOSERS AND CREATED AND LAUNCHED A FREE AND ACCESSIBLE PUBLIC DATABASE TO HOUSE THIS INFORMATION. IN THE PAST YEARS WE ALSO LAUNCHED REDEFINING THE CANON, A PROGRAM THAT PARTNERS WITH ORCHESTRAS NATIONWIDE AND AIMS TO UPDATE THE MOST WIDELY USED ORCHESTRA AUDITION EXCERPTS TO INCLUDE EXCERPTS BY HISTORICALLY UNDERREPRESENTED COMPOSERS.
