Program 1 [2020]
DURANGO EDUCATION CENTER PROVIDES ESSENTIAL EDUCATION SERVICES TO THOSE MOST IN NEED THROUGH: 1) ADULT BASIC LITERACY INSTRUCTION AND HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA PREPARATION AND TESTING; 2) ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSES AND CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION; 3) COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION TESTING TO IMPROVE WORK SKILLS AND EMPLOYABILITY; AND 4) CAREER TRANSITION AND SUPPORT ACTIVITIES LEADING TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY. 2020 WAS A DIFFICULT YEAR FOR DAEC, AS IT WAS FOR MOST EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE WORLD. WHILE OUR NUMBERS WERE DOWN IN 2020, WE WERE ABLE TO OFFER CLASSES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. DO TO THE COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS, WE WERE NOT ABLE TO SERVE STUDENTS IN THE LA PLATA COUNTY JAIL FROM MARCH OF 2020 UNTIL SPRING OF 2021. THIS IS REFLECTED IN OUR REDUCED NUMBERS OF STUDENTS AND GRADUATES. IN 2020, WE SERVED 323 STUDENTS IN OUR ADULT LITERACY PROGRAMS, HELPED 21 STUDENTS EARN A HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA (GED). WE SERVED 70 STUDENTS FROM 18 COUNTRIES WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES. WITH A GREATLY REDUCED NUMBER ALLOWED IN OUR TESTING CENTER, WE WERE ABLE TO ADMINISTER 259 EXAMS, WITH SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS MADE FOR HEALTHCARE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES STAFF. THROUGH OUR GRANTING PARTNERS, 45,200 WAS DISTRIBUTED TO INDIVIDUALS SEEKING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CERTIFICATES, TO HELP FILL MUCH NEEDED GAPS IN CHILDCARE, AND OVER 24,000 WAS AWARDED TO WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$734.1KEducational Services for Students
2021 has been a challenging year of holding tightly to the importance of our mission and ensuring that we safely meet the needs of all students and staff. For many reasons, DAEC did see a drop in both GED and ESL student numbers in 2020 and 2021. And not unlike most organizations, saw a shifting in staff and the inability to fill some positions as quickly as we would have liked. Throughout the past two challenging years, DAEC students continued to meet or exceed all educational goals as set by state and federal grant standards. DAEC has continued to fill positions with highly qualified and excellent staff, and numbers continue to climb back towards pre-pandemic levels in 2022. In 2022, DAEC is celebrating 35 years of service to students and community in the "Four-Corners" region of southwest Colorado. Through excellent programs, a qualified and dedicated staff and Board of Directors, prudent and careful budgeting and financial practices, DAEC will continue to ensure that these important programs thrive for the next 35 years.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$725.5K
