JAPAN AMERICA SOCIETY OF COLORADO
Programs
Program 1 [2020]
In 2020, due to the global pandemic and suspension of in-person activities, Japan America Society of CO was forced to get creative and develop online / virtual programs that would keep our community connected during this stressful time. One such program was "Colorado-Japan Friendship Week". During this week in November we hosted seven online programs in seven days - each highlighting a different connection between Colorado and Japan. Many of our local companies got involved and used this as a way to promote their own support of the Colorado-Japan relationship. The seven program topics were: Cooking, Art, Travel, Business, Global Careers, Japanese language, and a live Sumo watch party. This was one of the few events in 2020 where we charged a fee to attend in order to help sustain all of the other free programming that we were doing during the pandemic.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.8KProgram 2 [2020]
In January 2020, prior to the global pandemic, JASC hosted a panel discussion on the Outdoor Retail industry and it's importance both in Colorado and Japan. This event highlighted an important business connection in the Colorado-Japan relationship. Speakers included representatives of Montbell USA, Montbell Japan, Denver Economic Development & Opportunity, Colorado Outdoor Industry Office, Topo Designs, and Colorado Classic. About 100 people attended this luncheon event.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$4.5KProgram 3 [2020]
Cultural events were transferred online in 2020 and became a significant feature of what we did. "Oyatsu Time" was a completely online, short Japanese cultural tutorial held during the lunch hour. It was a wonderful way to get so many people engaged and excited about Japanese culture. We held seven of these programs in the series with a total of 184 participants.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$10.5K
