MAD AGRICULTURE

Programs
Program 1 [2020]
Mad Agriculture recognizes the unavailability of flexible long term capital as an impediment to the transition to regenerative and organic agriculture. In this multi-year project Mad Agriculture has designed an approach to solving this gap with a revolving operating loan with highly flexible and deferrable payments. The funds used this year went primarily to personnel travel and legal and professional fees associated with the development of the fund structure and raising the capital that will be deployed in the coming years. The fund was successfully created.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$278.5KProgram 2 [2020]
Mad Agriculture recognizes a need for agricultural technical assistance that orients farm consultation around the solar-carbon cycle and ecosystem function beyond the more conventional lens of chemical monitoring and manipulation of soils. To achieve the goal of having 'regenerative' technical assistance to all farmers who seek it Mad Agriculture worked with farmers in Colorado to develop a series of tools frameworks and processes that can be shared with current and new technical assistance providers. These resources were developed in real time while creating regenerative farm plans with carbon-quantified practice and land use changes. These plans were submitted to the NRCS for cost sharing. The resources and learnings were shared in a public workshop with other technical assistance providers in Colorado.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$101.5KProgram 3 [2020]
Boulder County commissioners voted to ban the use of GMO corn seed and neonic seed coatings on publicly owned agricultural land. This decision affected several farmers that lease public land to operate an agricultural enterprise. Mad Agriculture was hired by Boulder County to form a working relationship with the affected tenant farmers identify key areas of impact resulting from the ban and co-discover viable alternatives that do not rely upon GMO technology or neonic seed coating. In this year Mad Agriculture coordinated trials and analyzed the agronomic performance of these methods.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$41.5K
