SUMM + Zeno Family Fun Program
In partnership with Zeno and funded by the Simons Foundation, we launched SUMM + Zeno Family Fun, a series of 20 sessions engaging 45 families with children in math play. This 6-month series has been successful in encouraging families with children ages 3-10 to take part in informal, active math learning experiences together and with new friends. Each month we had a theme (explore, talk, build, art, patterns, etc.) and handed out some of the materials as giveaway products to continue the learning at home. This program was funded to continue through October 2023, and will be renewed in 2024.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2022 – Jun 30, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$44.6KSUMM Exhibit Design Projects
Several of our SUMM exhibit design prototyping projects advanced further as well, funded by a donation of $125,000 from an individual donor. SUMM is developing these portable exhibits to demonstrate our dedication to immersive and interactive math experiences. They will travel to schools, libraries, and community centers across King County. We are seeking funding from various sources, as well as input and feedback on these ideas from our three new Advisory Councils, which include Students, Parents and Caregivers, and Teachers. In February 2023, SUMM hired an Exhibit Concept Developer as a contractor to help manage the process, paid Educators to contribute to the projects, began paying for small items towards exhibits, and made the Exhibit Concept Developer an employee in June 2023.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2022 – Jun 30, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$15.3KAweSUMM Math Space Program
In late 2022, SUMM piloted our AweSUMM Math Space program with a small grant from MathHappens Foundation. At this drop-in program for families at local libraries in Renton and Skyway, SUMM engaged participants with math puzzles, games, and other hands-on activities, including math art projects, and origami. In early 2023, we expanded to the Kent Library and our themes and offerings developed further. As word among librarians spread, we have been invited to the other libraries as well.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2022 – Jun 30, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$2.1K
