FARM TO SCHOOL OF PARK COUNTY
Programs
Program 1 [2021]
The organization was originally established in 2007 in Livingston, MT as a school program that provided local food education in K-12 public schools. After a multi-year fiscal sponsorship with the Park County Community Foundation, it achieved nonprofit status in June 2020. The area served is primarily Park County, Montana, an economically depressed and rural area near Yellowstone National Park. Manyresidents live at or below poverty level. The mission has evolved and expanded as more specific needs have been identified. School-based and community-based programs continue to be developed to address these needs. Programs in 2020 included agriculture, nutrition and cooking education in K-12 settings; development of community and school gardens, greenhouses, and farms as educational andfood production sites; and school meal program support services provided directly to school nutrition professionals and food producers.Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Farm to School of Park County pivoted into webinar-based education, facilitated home learning opportunities for students, cultivated and incorporated more farmfresh foods into school meals than ever before; and safely provided outdoor enrichment education all summer long while planning for a drastically different school year ahead. Specifically, in response to COVID-19, the organization developed a School Restaurant Partnership in 2020 that collaborated with nine area restaurants to feed 500 local schoolchildren daily throughout the summer months. A Healthy School Food Fund was also established to provide grants to schools county-wide for food and non-food supplies necessary for innovation and implementation of on-site and mobile emergency meal programs.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$158.1KFarm to School Programs
