Dry Farming Educational Initiatives
In 2024, The Dry Farming Institute's educational program accomplished the following: Dry Farming Resources improved accessibility to research and resources on dry farming by updating its website and resource page. Through the Seed to Table Market Development program, the organization advanced collaborative market development for dry farmed products by publishing the Dry Farming Zine, distributing 800 copies, and hosting outreach and education events in Portland, including the Variety Showcase in September with 900 attendees and Sagra with 700 attendees. As part of the Western Water Resilience Collaborative, a team effort to support water resilience on farms and ranches along the West Coast, 125 out of 167 registered agricultural advisors from Oregon, Washington, and California attended four virtual workshops focused on water resilience, with 67 attending more than one session. These participants work with small-scale and historically underserved growers and include University Extension professionals, agency staff, consultants, nonprofit staff, and producers. The program also supported six farms in establishing water resilience demonstrations and hosting demo tours attended by 145 people. Interviews with host farms were conducted to inform case studies that will share farm-specific contexts-such as water use, climate, and soil conditions-along with strategies used, lessons learned, and future plans. Soil moisture sensors were especially useful in reducing irrigation and informing decisions.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$126.4K
