Healthcare Accountability Advocacy
Holding HCA accountable Facilitated and supported the NC Attorney Generals lawsuit against HCA by connecting staff attorneys with physicians and others. Brought federal and state regulators to inspect Mission Hospital in November 2023, which resulted in a finding of Immediate Jeopardy. Continuously forwarded patient and provider stories to agencies, spurring more compliance inspections. Educated a wide range of community members through multiple presentations. Conducted letter writing campaigns with various groups, such as physicians, clergy, elected officials, firefighters/EMS, realtors, and former Mission leaders. Engaged providers and clergy to speak confidentially with the Independent Monitor responsible for assessing HCAs compliance. Prepared and filed legislation to limit the corporate practice of medicine in NC and create whistleblower protections, ban non-compete clauses, and limit non-disclosure agreements for providers employed by hospitals. Introduced legislation regarding hospital consolidation that addresses many of the shortcomings our community experienced in the Mission-HCA deal. Beneficiaries are the half million residents of Western North Carolina who fall within the hospitals catchment area.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$21.6K
