Black Liberation and Community Support
BLMPHXM work towards Black Liberation by practicing abolition to seek true freedom of mind, write blueprints for a new world, cultivate healing, and create art. The organizations intention is to create a non-carceral and life-affirming world. Advocacy work: Bridged community and government to provide wraparound care for marginalized people and keep them out of a cycle of incarceration. Support families on their chosen path towards justice; advocating at city council, showing up to support during court dates, hosting panels and hosting community events. Healing programs/Therapy groups/trainings: Provided direct support to 15 families facing various forms of crisis that had the potential to leave them without shelter, without a basic need or leave them in a dangerous situation. Held 3 Indoor Rock Climbing sessions. Introducing 20 individuals to the recreation of rock climbing. Held 2 Craft Your Care sessions to answer questions about navigating and acquiring a mental health professional to fit individual needs. Educational programs: Freedom schools/Free arts/book club: An important part of our work is education and art programs for youth and adults to help build awareness and address systematic injustice along with empowering communities with knowledge and agency to craft solutions. Launched a multigenerational community based book club.
