IN RESPONSE TO THE 2020 PANDEMIC, SUPPORT AND FEED LAUNCHED A COVID-19 CRISIS RESPONSE, DEDICATED TO PROVIDING PLANT-BASED MEALS PREPARED BY LOCAL RESTAURANTS TO INDIVIDUALS, CHILDREN, AND FAMILIES DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC, AND PUBLIC EDUCATION ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF PLANT-BASED FOODS. THE PROGRAM GREW RAPIDLY, EXPANDING TO LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK, PHILADELPHIA, AND WASHINGTON, DC. IN 2020 SUPPORT AND FEED'S PROGRAM ACTIVITY WAS CONDUCTED THROUGH THE SHARED EFFORTS OF MORE THAN 150 VOLUNTEERS. OVER 42 RESTAURANTS PREPARED MEALS FOR DISTRIBUTION AMONG OVER 80 COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS. MAGGIE BAIRD AND OTHER FOUNDING BOARD MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS CONDUCTED THE MEAL DELIVERIES AT ALL LEVELS AND CREATED AND DISTRIBUTED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS IN PERSON WHEREVER POSSIBLE AND VIRTUALLY THROUGH SUPPORT AND FEED'S WEBSITE AND OTHER IN-PERSON AND ONLINE EVENTS.THE ORGANIZATION HAD A FISCAL SPONSOR FOR 2020, BUT FILED AN APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION WITH THE IRS ON APRIL 29, 2021.NUMBER OF PEOPLE SERVED: NEARLY 60,000 MEALS WERE SERVED IN 2020.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesNov 20, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$0Plant-Based Food Advocacy
SUPPORT AND FEED IS EMERGING AS A GLOBAL LEADER AND ADVOCATE FOR PLANT-BASED FOOD SOLUTIONS TO THE DOUBLE INJUSTICE OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD INSECURITY, WHICH STRIKES HARDEST AMONG MARGINALIZED PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES OF COLOR EVERYWHERE. SUPPORT AND FEED SUPPORTS LOCAL PLANT-BASED ECONOMIES AND PROVIDES PLANT-BASED MEALS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AMONG UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN MULTIPLE U.S. CITIES AND THROUGH INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS.
