  • BCarbon Climate Standards Program

    BCarbon creates and maintains standards and programs to achieve sustainable climate change goals to protect and conserve the environment for the benefit of the general public using nature-based solutions. BCarbon reviews and certifies applications for both soil and timber carbon credits as well as methane well credits to determine whether they meet BCarbon's criteria for credit issuance. Credits are issued and registered on a blockchain accounting system to keep up with subsequent transactions. During 2024, BCarbon added a carbon credit protocol for plugging orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells that are leaking methane, for which no state or federal funding is available.
