Matthew's Crew Mental Health Initiatives
In June 2021, Matthew;s Crew held its first annual Cornhole Tournament in Milton, MA. They were joined by other organizations with similar missions- Aspire Health Alliance, NAMI, The Samaritans and a local Yellow Tulip Team. In addition to raising funds ($12,000), the tournament provides participants and others the opportunity to gather to support each other and promote healthy conversation regarding the perception of mental health for children and young adults in hopes of accelerating the implementation and awareness of mental health programs. The second annual tournament is scheduled in June, 2022.Matthew;s Crew has been working with THE JED Foundation (JED) and local high schools to pursue the possibility of implementing the JED's High School Program at local schools. JED is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nations teens and young adults, giving them the skills and support they need to thrive. In 2021, Matthew;s Crew paid the start up costs for a local middle school chapter of "The Yellow Tulip Project" (a national organization that promotes mental health awareness). Matthew;s Crew intends to support the chapter with additional funding (amount TBD) for the school year starting in September, 2022.In September 2020 and 2021, Matthew's Crew supported the Samaritans Inc (a 501(c)(3)charity) that provides life saving suicide prevention services throughout Greater Boston, MetroWest, and across Massachusetts. By forming a team and participating in a 5K Walk/Run for suicide prevention, the team helped raise over $16,000 (2020) and close to $3,000 (2021) for the Samaritans. Before he passed away, Matthew expressed his concern for young patients that spend the holidays at in-patient mental health facilities. In December the Matthew;s Crew community donated and delivered holiday gifts to the psychiatric unit at a local children's hospital. Matthew;s Crew members wanted to let both staff and patients know that they are remembered, prayed for and that they matter!GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––
