NorthStar Advocates continue to expand its impact across Washington state to prevent and end youth and young adult homelessness. NorthStar Advocates has been a leader in developing innovative programs, policies and resources for young people who survive at the intersection of homelessness and the behavioral health crisis. Washington state and the nation are experiencing a crisis in opioid addiction which is driving an increase in homelessness among young people. Young people who have the courage to enter inpatient substance use addiction and/or mental health facilities are being discharged from such facilities to emergency shelters, drop-in centers that have no beds or worse. NorthStar Advocates has led the effort to establish safe housing and services for young adults ages 18-24 being discharged from a behavioral health treatment facility with no housing. Through the Bridge Coalition and Bridge Housing we are interrupting the pattern of the cycle of homelessness, treatment and return to homelessness. NorthStar Advocates has also been a key organization is Washington state seeing a 40% reduction in youth and young adult homelessness. NorthStar Advocates is a leader in engaging and supporting young people with lived experience to advise our organizational strategic direction and implementation of our program. We pay all young people who engage with us a significant stipend for their participation. We also participate in several state coalitions. Our executive director is the Chair of the Office of Homeless Youth Advisory Board and has elevated the voice and participation of young people with lived experience.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$268.5K
