Outreach Camp and Community Support
On Fire Ministries (OFM) began its first year at Outreach Camp at Ghormley Meadows in June 24. Over 130 kids, 4-5th graders, attending a three-day free camp in the Cascade Mountains. Witnessing the overwhelming response of students standing for the first time in the hope and love of Jesus, birthed a quickening to the obvious question of now what? Within the next few months a Board was formed, established a sister relationship with !st Pres for use their gym/kitchen on Saturday nights, enrolled volunteers, began a campaign to raise the equivalent of a $100,000 annual budget, did direct mailing, door to door canvasing, fed over 200 at Thanksgiving, handed out hundreds of Christmas gifts, built an ongoing relationship with United Way, spoke to numerous groups about the possibilities of partnering with OFM.All very exciting and evolutionary. Before the end of 2024, we were posturing for an increase in the annual budget to $180,000. Feeding and ministering on Saturday nights to 100 students and adults. Searching for locations to simplify and accommodate the changing dynamic.Yet, what is the price of the one? Out here on the streets of East Yakima, there are thousands of families wallowing in the crush of welfare mentality...which breeds all sorts of tragic cousins; weve had shattered families stand up for prayer during Wednesday night worship, weeping over being victimized by drive by shootings. Without exceptions, this community confronts an incredible degree of susceptibility in: illiteracy, joblessness, violence, fatherlessness, abuse, teen pregnancy, boredom, gang perpetration, crime, and poverty. So, we are grateful when we can rescue one from that ledge of destruction.Right now, OFM is a building project. Most citizens are reluctant to step into this dysfunction, and are just more convenient to stay removed and ignorant. Taking a huge effort to just recruit the workers for the harvest, Johnny and Nina Rodriguez have encountered a transformational awareness of how much the Lord is striving to find the one. Redeemed from the destructive cycle of gangs, incarceration and death, they are persistently spreading hope, as quickly as resources allow, across the consciousness of Yakima.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$80.4K
