  • Food Distribution Services

    Food distribution: In 2022, Nourishing Bethesda distributed more than 37,000 pounds of food to more than 18,000 households representing more than 61,000 individuals, including repeat visits by some clients. Each week, each household received on average 9.2 pounds of produce, 8.3 pounds of shelf stable food and 1.9 pounds of protein. One third of those served were children and a quarter were seniors. We operated a grab-and-go distribution for 8 months of the year, then transitioned to an appointment model for the remainder of the year. We also served community low-income senior housing, a men's homeless shelter and permanent transitional housing weekly. We served multiple communities in primarily Montgomery County, Maryland. More than 475 volunteers gave more than 10,000 hours of their time to these efforts.

  • Wraparound Services Provision

    Provision of wraparound services: Nourishing Bethesda began offering and linking our clients to wraparound resources in 2022. This included working with a local hospital to connect clients to vaccinations, blood pressure testing and other care. We also worked with the local school system to discuss referrals and connected clients to other available benefits. Finally, we surveyed our clients to determine what wraparound benefits would be most useful in 2023. Because this effort was all done by volunteers, there are no costs for this program service.

  • Food Recovery Initiatives

    Food recovery: Nourishing Bethesda began exploring avenues of recovering food from local organizations including restaurants, caterers and stores. Because this effort was all done by volunteers, there are no costs for this program service.
