  • Leveling the Playing Field for Medicare

    Supported leveling the playing field between Traditional Medicare (TM) and Medicare Advantage (MA) so that Medicare beneficiaries have a financially viable choice between these programs. Raised concerns that the current practices of private Medicare Advantage (MA) insurers are causing serious inequities within the Medicare system, and harming the health and well-being of senior citizens and people with disabilities. PSARA hosted five major webinars and a rally on these issues with presentations by national leaders for about 600 participants. PSARA reached out to a variety of national and state based organizations sharing experiences and analysis and coordinating and organizing at the national level. Including developing a "Level the Playing Field" resolution which was passed by the WA State Labor Council and other organizations.

  • Legislative Advocacy and Support

    Worked with allies to pass state legislation that: (1) protects patients and healthcare providers by addressing hospital safe staffing ratios, (2) extends access and protections for reproductive healthcare, (3) adds climate and environmental justice elements to our Growth Management Act, (4) supports affordable housing by investing in the Housing Trust Fund, (5) invests in BIPOC homeownership, and (6) ensures sustainability of the paid family and medical leave program. Developed a Legislative Agenda, held a Legislative Conference and conducted training on how to successfully advocate with state legislators. We held a virtual lobby day with 30 PSARA members across the state and their legislators. Supported more than 45 bills by contacting legislators and signing in to support bills as an organization and coordinating with members to do the same. Members also provided oral and written testimony in some cases.

  • Community Solidarity and Activism Events

    Built community solidarity and activism for our issues by hosting five in-person events and three Zoom events with about 300 total participants (in addition to events in the two programs described above). Three of these events advocated for reparations in coordination with community partners. Two supported the environment including one with national leader, author and activist Bill McKibben. In addition we supported more than seven events hosted by other organizations including carrying our PSARA banner at the M.L.King Day March & Rally and the Seattle Pride Parade.
