Removing Barriers Initiative
Removing Barriers supports academic success for those students furthest from racial and educational justice. In 2022-23, Removing Barriers provided assistance to approximately 300 families for students experiencing limitations to their potential. Our funds aided with everything between utility support to scholarships to attend national competitions. We supported approximately 100 families who were impacted by sudden crisis by providing grocery funds. Our students experiencing homelessness received support for personal and school needs. We partnered with the NSD, the YMCA and the City of Kenmore to provide a free summer camp experience for students and families who needed it most. We also provided backpacks and school supplies to more than 1,600 students.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2022 – Jun 30, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$438.9KClassroom Grants Program

In our third year of our Youth Advisory Board, we are learning to integrate student voice into our programs and services. This group of kids collaborated to share information about mental health resources, initiate new conversations about intramural sports and select members of the group also attended the Board Planning retreat. This year we continued our Skills4Life podcast that features interviews with professionals who are working in careers that are anticipated to be high demand jobs of the future. Our intent is to increase knowledge about possible careers for parents so that they can inspire their students to find careers that will be available and successful when they graduated. We continue to support districtwide CP & Dorothy Johnson awards that honor students for building character and citizenship skills to 2 students at each of our 32 schools.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2022 – Jun 30, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$5K
