Northwest Washington Medical Society Programs
Northwest Washington Medical Society (NWMS) provides educational activities and other resources for medical professionals in our community. Some of the activities include the following:a. Host a welcome dinner every November (since 1889) for all new physicians in Whatcom and San Juan to meet the membership and local physician community.b. Support Physician Leadership Training through the WSMA Annual Leadership Course.c. Provide physician referral service.d. Provides wellness programming for at-risk professionals, including suicide and burn-out prevention.e. Serve as Whatcom County information resource for Death with Dignity.f. Every February the women physicians come together for a celebration of the life of Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman doctor in the USA. They have a professional empowerment meeting that the NWMS hosts.g. Provide continuing medical education through a yearly symposium where a community matter is discussed. NWMS provides scholarships and supports philanthropic causes in the following ways:a. Donate money to a BIPOC student through the North Sound Race and Health Equity.b. Provide an annual scholarship for pre-med student(s) at Western Washington University.c.
