Food Security Initiative
Josephine County Farm Collective provides no barrier access to fresh, healthy and nutritious locally grown foods to underserved and rural communities. This includes local food banks, pantries, schools and other community based nonprofit organizations collaborating to improve food security. 6,000+ lbs of locally grown food donated to food banks, pantries, and local nonprofits annually. Donations delivered directly to homes lacking transportation with an average 2,080 households annually. 22+ community partners collaborating to provide customized orders and healthy food options to the area served. Josephine County Farm Collective improves community health by providing skill building educational programs designed to change dietary habits. We provide education to consumers and producers as follows:Consumer education includes the following: Cooking From the Garden programs which focus on nutritional benefits preparing, preserving and eating fresh, whole foods with simple steps, inexpensive techniques and easy recipies Grow Your Own programs provide basic home gardening skills for all living situations so participants can save money and eat better by growing their own whole foods. Lunch n Learn programs are abridged videos of the above programs available online to increase accessability to educational content. Commercial Food Processing Kitchen:This is an Oregon Department of Agriculture licensed food processing kitchen which will be available for public rental. This program is in progress and phase 1 was completed by the end of 2024.
